Did Chelsea Clinton Tweet About Bill Gates’ Affair With a Microsoft Employee?

In light of the news that Bill Gates acknowledged an extramarital affair with a Microsoft employee, a Facebook post with what appears to be a screenshot of a tweet from Chelsea Clinton weighing in on the news, has gone viral. The purported tweet is accompanied by a picture of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.

This is not a real tweet from Clinton. 

A spokesperson for Chelsea Clinton, Sara Horowitz, confirmed to The Dispatch Fact Check via email that the tweet is “fake.”

Aside from the fact that the screenshot of the post does not match the real font or format of a genuine tweet, the tweet in question does not appear anywhere on Clinton’s Twitter Page or in her Twitter archive.

    Yeah, that was obviously a fake tweet. But is there really nothing more important to fact check than this nonsense. Why is The Dispatch so concerned with protecting Chelsea Clinton against a claim that she is oblivious to irony? It just seems like an odd use of limited fact checking resources.

      TD is a fact checker for Facebook. Presumably this viral claim has had enough purchase on Facebook that they set their fact checkers in it.

        Yea, I saw this one pop up on my Facebook feed shared by some red-pilled-conspiracy-theory-addled FB friends, which probably means it's getting some widespread engagement from that crowd.

        That explains a lot. I was noticing that 85% of TD's fact checks are designed to protect Democrats and Democrat policies. But if TD is working as an agent of Facebook's censorship project that makes sense.

        Facebook tells TD what it wants "fact checked" (and of course there is no doubt what result FB expects). Then when TD delivers the required verdict, FB gets to claim a "conservative" source backs its decision to censor the offending claims. Presumably, TD then gets a quid pro quo in the form of getting its content boosted in FB's algorithm.

        This supports my current working hypothesis that TD is actually a controlled "conservative" front group which is owned and operated by the Democrat propaganda network. I'll keep an open mind but all evidence points in that direction.

          My guess is that they could probably fact check your claim as false and then get their quid pro quo while secretly suppressing the opposition. Man they are good :) It's all one giant conspiracy!

            The issue is that TD is working for Facebook. Facebook is a pro-Democrat, anti-conservative censorship operation. That's why TD's fact checks are pro-Democrat, both in terms of what they choose to fact check and how they do it.
