    Based on the discussion below, I think Sarah, A.B. and Chris owe us an explanation for their comments that somehow the laws in GA, TX etc. give Republicans in the state legislatures greater freedom to overturn election results or that somehow these changes are a threat to democracy. Because there are multiple people confused by those comments and no one has provided an explanation. Thanks.

    It's interesting to me that Chris, in a throwaway statement, said that what Republicans are doing in GA, TX, and AZ is the basis for potentially destroying our democracy. That's a big thing - you'd think there would have been a few articles at the Dispatch saying so.
    So I think Chris has actually revealed what I had already begun to believe was the position of the editors of TD.
    That is:
    1) they recognize that what Trumplicans are doing is damaging to the country in a fundamental way
    2) they feel that saying this out loud too often is counter productive
    3) they think (or know) that some Republican politicians who don't address it head on are nevertheless doing things behind the scenes to address it
    4) they are willing to let people like Mike Gallagher, Dan Crenshaw, and Chip Roy do their Trumpian schtick without significant pushback, because they believe that these people are "good" and will do the right thing when it counts even if they're willing to do the wrong thing to get themselves into the position to have the opportunity to do the right thing later.

    I hope they're right, but the lesson of the last 5 years is that when you compromise your principles repeatedly, you find there's no bottom.

    Both A.B. and Chris suggested that the Georgia and Texas voter laws are an existential threat to the Republic, but did not explain in any detail how or why. Statements that bold require more elucidation for your listeners.

    Just so I am clear did Chris Stirewalt refer to the GA Voter Integrity Law as “voter suppression” ?
    Does he believe that or is he referring to how Democrats are portraying it? I live in GA and I am confounded on how we are referred to as racist for implementing a law that has similar language to many Blue state election laws. ( also broader in some cases). Asking someone to have an ID to vote is not suppression Chris, nor does it make me a racist.

    AB Stoddard is so decisively bullshit-free in how she sums up the realpolitik (sp?) constrictions both parties have to maneuver in. Love it.
