Remnant regular and Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt joins to discuss the newsiest events of the day: sausage varietals, Teddy Roosevelt’s legacy, and 1800s newspapers. In addition to nerding out on these rather specific topics, they do get around to some more modern rank punditry on everything from early voting to the future of cable news.

    One of my favorite episodes. Truly, you could have Stirewalt on every episode, and I would be happy. The dynamic between you guys is fantastic, even though I don't always understand the pop culture and niche references.

    So when it comes to sausages, if you are in Stuttgart and there is Swabian sausages and lentils on the menu, skip it. I fell for it and got franks and lentils cooked just like our own franks and beans. A long way to travel for a hot dog.

    One other point-get the Sauron reference to Wilson but I keep hearing the Imperial March from Star Wars because the Emperor overthrew a Republic.

    Excellent podcast. Especially like the view on what is driving the media. The NYT for example needs to keep their subscribers happy, thus greater ideological purity driven by their business model. Also like the TR bashing but wish Chris had mentioned that Teddy issued more exec orders than all pres before him. Now pres govern by exec order. Finally. love that Chris pointed out how much Americans hate a loser. H.W. Bush, Carter - were not seen in the same light as Reagan or Obama. If Obama had lost to Romney in 2012 he would not be the person he is today.

    Great podcast, loved the bit about running experienced campaigns and discipline.

    On West Virginia, it was one of the few theaters of the Civil War where when the Union was losing all over the place, (Thanks McClellan) West Virginia gave much needed victories.

    Also, fun fact: the town of Harper's Ferry (the armory created by Washington built there was raided by John Brown) changed hands in the civil war 14 times (It was a nightmare to hold).

    I don't buy the Lee stuff. Yes, he did after his defeat encourage not fighting more against the union. But he joined the south, was a traitor, and we know via letters and he believed in white supremacy. (The real evil type, not the way posers use the word today). He literally argued in his letters that slavery was bad, for white people, but GOOD for black people (Look how civilized they have become! Never mind that maybe blacks don't want to be slaves)

    Lee also broke up every slave family on his plantation except one. It was one of the cruelest things you could do. He treated his slaves so terribly, they almost revolted.

    Nothing more hilarious than black regiments showing his racist self that men are created equal. Especially with a gun in their hands to equalize everyone.

    I could listen to Stirewalt forever when it comes to elections....maybe everything political, too. He's one of a handful of guys that keeps me going back to Fox on occasion.
