The drive-time Remnant format returns today for a deep dive into the horrors of social media and book promotion. Though Jonah is on the mend after yesterday’s brush with an unfortunate stomach ailment, he still isn’t back to 100 percent. Thankfully, Guy and Ryan have been prepared to provide him with medical assistance and ensure his rants remain coherent. Will the Lincoln Project ever cease to irritate? Is Blade still the best comic book movie? And will Jonah soon follow his secret dream of becoming a bestselling sci-fi author?     The most important aspect of the Spiderman character that most his incarnations manage to get right is that he effing loves the act of Super-Heroing. It is the thing that generally attracts people to comic books. You can keep brooding Batman and philosophical Superman, I'll take joyful Spiderman any day.

    I find the meta verse idea creepy, but I can’t dismiss it easily. Jonah mentioned the brain’s face recognition functions for why it wouldn’t work, but I think that ignores that brains amazing adaptability capabilities. 🤷‍♀️

    Jonah, hope you’re feeling better. Please, from all the listeners and subscribers, take care of your health. Same goes for Steve. If you have to take a week off for your health - as much as I truly enjoy reading the G File and listening to this podcast - we will all understand. We’d rather have the Dispatch and all you guys stick around for a while than have you burn out.

    This was maybe the best post-credits Remnant scene (since you say “see you next time” it works) ever!

    I just watched a movie yesterday that was very much about whether having the power to do something gives you not necessarily the right to do it, but the obligation. Apropos of Jonah relating that to Spider-Man, it was a comic book movie. But it was a DC animated film, not Marvel. Injustice, released last month, is based on the popular video game that pits DC heroes against one another. Clark Kent, who is married to Lois, wakes up next to her and detects a fetal heartbeat (For the record, I am pretty sure Metropolis is not in T.X) Lois and Clark are ecstatic and terrified to learn they will be parents. But later that day, Lois is kidnapped by the Joker and through an overly elaborate comic book plot Superman is tricked into killing her and her death triggers a hydrogen bomb in Metropolis killing 11 million people. Superman kills the joker and decides he is going to end wars and stop people from hurting each other. Super heroes either rally to Superman's side or Batman's.

    But leaving aside the entertaining super powered fights, the question about whether a man with the power of a god has the right or even the duty to intervene is profound. Maybe the Grand Duchy of Fenwick can be forgiven for not stopping the genocide of the Uyghurs because the power to destroy a thing (in their case using the Q bomb to blow up the world) does not always give you the power to control it. Sorry Muad'dib. The United States certainly has the power to destroy the world and just as certainly can exert strong influence but cannot control it. But Superman cannot only defeat armies, he can go after the leaders of those armies directly. Injustice is worth a download. Not only does it have superhero fights, an almost forgotten hero plays a significant part in the story. This is the first time I've seen an animated Plastic Man since the 1970's.

    I'm sitting here under cloudy skies and torrential rain. I live just north of Seattle. So, wutsup with Jonah? CAN YOU DIG IT!!!!! Hilarious. I can't tell you how much I love this intro. It's just the right mix of music and silly and fun. I always laugh and then settle down for whatev is on the menu.
    Just wanted to give a shout out for the excellent intro and, of course, always enjoy the pod. For me, the intro is a laugh out loud intro to get you in the mood.
