After 11 months of investigation—interviews, records requests, subpoenas, and endless controversy—the House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot is ready to reveal its findings in six hearings over the next two weeks. Rep. Liz Cheney, who helps lead the committee, joined Steve and David on the Dispatch Live for a preview of what to expect.
“This was a violent assault on the United States Capitol, and it was provoked by a sitting president of the United States,” Cheney said. “If we really want to understand why January 6 is a line that can never be crossed again, then we really do have to sort of put the politics and the partisanship aside. … Let’s understand what happened. And let’s do everything we can to protect ourselves from it in the future.”
