A screenshot of a tweet supposedly from right-wing commentator Matt Walsh went viral in the last week, with Walsh allegedly saying: “‘Taking advantage’ of a drunk girl is not rape.”
This tweet uses Walsh’s real Twitter handle and avatar, but it is fake. The image was first shared on Reddit at the end of November, in a parody subreddit that mocks right-wing figures called Toilet Paper USA, a play on the name of the conservative group Turning Point USA. The page routinely features satirical fake quotes and tweets from conservatives, and the post in question was marked “Fake News” to identify it as such.
