Jonah is joined by author, speechwriter, and ghostwriter Nancy French to discuss her new book, Ghosted: An American Story. Nancy tells the tale of how she came to meet the permanent guest host of Advisory Opinions (who is now dead to Jonah), how the Republican Party’s embrace of Donald Trump left her and her family ostracized, and also gives an update on her battle with cancer.

    Nancy’s combination of decency, kindness, bravery, and unassuming brilliance is deeply reassuring to listen to. It makes me feel… well, that everything is going to be OK.

    The older I get, and the more of the world I see, the easier it is to be cynical. And then you encounter someone… an old man in Marrakesh, or my wife, or Nancy French… and you realise that people still have the capacity to surprise you in a very good way.

    Thanks for having her on. It genuinely made my day.

    Enjoyed the podcast. For next time, I’d like to suggest exploring how the ghostwriting process works. This was skirted with a couple of topics, but still has a lot of meat on the bone.

    I ordered Nancy's book after her interview on The Russell Moore Show. It arrived this Wednesday afternoon and as I had already scheduled days off work I started reading immediately. Finished it yesterday morning (Friday) with tears and a smile. Then I went back and read (or reread) the Kanakuk articles. Last evening listened to my first entire The Remnant because it was Nancy, although I have looked at show notes before. I connected to her story in the book and the interviews and wanted to thank her again, not remembering that I could put a comment here until now. I checked my email last night after not looking at it for a few days and there was a short thank you from Nancy replying to my recent comment on her website that I was ordering her book and also praying for her recovery after listening to Russell Moore. Her book is not going to sit on my bookshelf. I am going to pass it around to whomever will read it and anticipate interesting and some uncomfortable conversations. Continued prayers for her and her family and our communities, the church, our country and world. Striving that my conversations show my listeners that they are heard and valued like Nancy does.

    Enjoyed this podcast. Nancy is charming and I will definitely order her book.

    Hearing the experience that she and David had with politics in their church always leaves me aghast. That this sort of behavior would be permitted to pollute the assembly of the church is insane. I suppose from time to time the wheat must be separated from the chaff.

    I'll be praying for Nancy and her family as they bear the burden of illness. I have no doubt that, like my own family, they will emerge closer and stronger after the ordeal.
