    If you take away progressives’ ability to make arguments rooted in shaming those who disagree with them as evil, you aren’t really leaving them many other arrows in the quiver.

    Overall, I don't think the discussion around the AR15 was bad, but the flagship legal podcast has taught me to engage with the hypotheticals. I thought Mr. Gutowski deserved a better answer to his question about the suitability of an AR15 to a mass shooting.

    First, I would point out that the places where most mass shootings receive intense media coverage should be places that it is difficult to sneak a rifle into (schools, churches, theaters). In that case, it should be more suitable to use a handgun just for convenience of access. It is very odd that, contrarily, most instances of mass shootings involving handguns don't receive nearly the same amount of media coverage.

    Second, the very premise of the question implies that the right to keep and bear arms doesn't extend to arms that are effective. It lends credulity to the idea that there's some sort of usefulness threshold beyond which the 2nd Amendment stops applying, rather than the current threshold of dangerous and unusual. It beggars logic to imply that this particular Amendment stops applying once the exercise thereof is of sufficient quality.
