    Thanks for confronting McCarthy/Carlson whitewashing of the Jan 6th insurrection and raising the question of why McCarthy granted exclusive Capitol Surveillance footage to Carlson, who was previously known to promulge falsehoods and conspiracy theories on this very topic. You related how Carlson then pasted together select portions of the video trove to paint a false narrative of peaceful tourists - credible only if one discounts all the hours of footage of violence, destruction, bashing of police officers, and congressional representatives fleeing for their lives.

    Unless I missed it, though, you didn’t connect McCarthy’s extraordinary grant to Carlson’s egregious lying to hoodwink the public into believing election denialism (Dominion filing on Fox depositions), arguably helping to foment the insurrection that he is now tasked with reshaping opinion on.

    McCarthy’s statements show he intended to grant Carlson this “scoop”, and it was widely expected that Carlson would do exactly as he has done. McCarthy could have released the footage to the public or at least to someone who was not a confessed liar, pushing millions to lose faith in our democracy and elections. Arguably, the footage was granted *because of*, not in spite of Carlson/Fox previous egregious lies that undermined our democracy.
