    Sarah, I may be wrong, but I think you have mixed up your Sorkin references. It sounds like you're describing President Bartlet to Florida Governor Rob Ritchie in their debate episode of The West Wing. I don't remember a similar exchange in The American President.

    I am listening, rather than watching the video, after the fact, but I'm confident Kevin's initial show-and-tell for the day's "worst advertisement for the Republican Party" is Giuliani's mugshot. Amiright?

    Good post-debate discussion. I disagree with Sarah because, hoping that Trump falls by the wayside, these debates may be for all the marbles. Trump’s absence is a sign of weakness, or bail issues. It doesn’t make these dog and pony shows. They should carry on as if he doesn’t matter.

      I used to think that the only thing that could stop Trump from winning the nomination is if he dropped dead from one too many cheeseburgers. Now I think he would still be the nominee regardless

    David F. popping in was a nice surprise.

    I'm with Sarah in this whole thing was an exercise in futility. Unless Trump drops dead or stokes out, he is the nominee.

      Even more so I think that Vivek is the only one relevant presidentially after this election cycle. DeSantis has so much money left over in his SuperPAC his ego may make him try again in 2028 (especially if he decides to take Rick Scott's senate seat out of spite when he exits the presidential race). But if he tries again in 2028 it will be colossal failure a la Rick Perry/Mike Huckabee/Rick Santorum in 2016.

      Whether Trump wins or loses, Vivek, JD Vance, and Glen Youngkin are likely the three relevant current players in the party for 2028.

    An interesting aspect of this was going back and reading Vivek's article (which apparently I had read and commented on at the time). Wow was he such an internet troll his article wasn't particularly serious and the comments seemed to indicate I wasn't the only one that felt this way at the time.

    I concur entirely with Steve (at about the eighteen minute mark). The whole thing and the current state of the GOP was perfectly encapsulated by the moment that, 1) the candidates were asked, "raise your hand if you'd support a convicted felon," 2) most do, and 3) *and the crowd goes wild for it*. This is *bonkers*.

    If Trump were hit by lightning, his supporters would demand that Congress learn Hunter Biden's connection to BIG CLOUD. I mean, FOLLOW THE CHARGE, SHEEPLE.

    I hate myself for watching that pathetic excuse for a debate, but I'm glad I watched this right after. Great analysis from the team.

    While there were a few technical issues, overall I have to give props to the behind-the-scenes team. Dispatch Live has come a long way from being a Vimeo of a Zoom call. The graphics package for this made it look like something that could be on cable news.
