    Point of clarification per Des Moines. My wife graduated from DMU (local medical school) in the early 2000’s. At that point downtown would completely die during the weekends save for the amazing farmers market on Saturday morning during the summer. We go back to Des Moines after moving back home to Peoria every few years. The change in downtown is amazing and the “Des Moines, Hell yeah” has more to do with the massive increase in young people who live and work downtown. They are going to cool not being a victim.

    Why go back to the 60s for seeing mob violence justified. The post George Floyd riots were portrayed as righteous social justice.

    Really awesome insights. You guys illuminated a human phenomenon that I can only think to call “moral inversion,” the way the term is used in critique of totalitarian regimes. It really stood out to me how pervasive this human tendency is, even in somebody like me who considers themself a dedicated moderate. If anyone has better terms to Susa out more connections, I’d love to hear them.

    Once again, Stirewalt goes egregiously off the rails in his 3rd grade level boomer attack. The fringe 60’s mindset he ridiculously attributes to all boomers was actually the work of the Silent Generation. Furthermore, the most uninspired, disaffected cadre of young people I’ve experienced were those GenX kids in the early to mid-90s. Finally, if you are truly going to have a conversation of grey beards, Stirewalt too young (though he tries hard to seem older than he is), bring on Mr. Hayes.
