An image of a purported Trump tweet has gone viral on social media. The image shows what appears to be a tweet from Trump on April 3, 2016, reading: “Obama should wait until he leaves office to pick another Justice! If he doesn’t, he should be fired!”
There is no record of this tweet in the Trump Twitter Archive, which maintains a record of nearly every tweet the president has ever sent. The Wayback Machine, an internet archive, also does not show the tweet in question as having occurred on April 3, 2016, and a Google search for the tweet turns up results only for meme pages.
While Trump did go on the record as being opposed to Obama filling the Supreme Court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s passing in 2016, there is no evidence that he ever sent out the tweet now going viral.
