    David, I know this is crazy, but you have to skip to season 10 episode 1 of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I laughed so hard I was coughing and tearing up. It was one of the funniest ones, and relevant to these times.

    I’m sure someone already pointed this out but, although the women may very well have out earned the men in this past World Cup cycle, that is very much the exception and only so because the men had an historically bad cycle. If the men had only performed very badly then they would’ve made significantly more money than they did since the prize purse for the men’s World Cup dwarfs that of the women’s World Cup. I’m fully confident that if you, Sarah, will look at how much both teams made every Cup Cycle (which is 4 years btw) you would see that the argument tied to revenue generation doesn’t work. The fact of the matter is that although the US has considerable interest in their women’s team relative to the men’s team, we are unique (not kind of or sort of) in that regard. Most of the world hardly notices women’s soccer and if they do the interest pales in comparison to that of their men’s team. As a result, the money is just not there and the success of the women’s team is in large part due to the level of their competition. I know, you can only play the teams you have to play. But I suspect that that is the first point that they were trying to make- that comparative success is actually irrelevant as they’re playing on 2 very different levels. It’s the equivalent of high school vs professional. For the love of Pete, some women’s teams are required to wear hijabs and burkas.

    The discussion about the eventuality of a federalist conflict between people coming into New York etc is interesting, but I think the bigger epidemiological question today is what about people fleeing the city and/or the state?

    I read an article yesterday about year round residents in the Hampton being upset that City residents are flooding to their summer homes, at least one who had the virus. What's to stop people from leaving New York and spreading their virus outside of their currently concentrated New York/New Jersey environs? As I conservatarian, I certainly don't like the idea of telling people they can't leave their state, but the question is begged.

    One of my favorite lines from 30 Rock is when Tracy Jordan says he can't read and later he is seen reading a magazine or news paper and says "George Will just keeps getting more Conservative". It's kind of weird to re-watch as there were references to Conservatives quite a bit in early seasons and not really in a bad light either.

    I really appreciate that you all didn't spend 100% of the time on coronavirus. There is so much out there and providing clarity is a service but we also need a distraction. Something to think about or talk about besides the virus. So thank you so much for providing a least a little of that in this podcast.

    The discussion of banning travel from other states is something that is happening on a lower level in North Carolina. Dare county ( most of the outer banks)has 3 entrances, two by bridge and one by ferry. They already have a system in place to restrict travel due to damage by hurricanes and restrict re-entry into the county. Due to limited infrastructure compared to all of the people who traveled to Dare County over the last two weeks, lead to Dare county restricting entrance to only permanent residents and vital supply/services. Non resident ho owners are upset they can’t re-enter the county currently. It would be interesting to hear you two discuss the legality of this on a future podcast.

    Sarah's description of Justice Kagan's "tactic" (beginning around 27:30)—turning a 5-4 majority into a 6-3 majority so she can write the Court's opinion—is a bit off, I think, or oversimplified. "[T]he Chief Justice, or the most senior Justice in the majority if the Chief Justice is in the dissent, assigns a Justice in the majority to write the opinion of the Court." (See link below.) If Justice Kagan wants to shape the opinion of what would be a 5-4 majority led by Chief Justice Roberts, there is no guarantee that Roberts will assign her to write the opinion. Indeed, Kagan is currently the third-most-junior Justice (only Gorsuch and Kavanaugh are more junior), so on today's Court it is difficult for her to use that tactic without cooperation from another member of the Court; it is impossible for her to be the most senior of any five Justices. Or am I missing something?

      I think the point is that she "offers" to make it a bigger majority if they will give her some influence over the opinion. Naturally she can't be completely off or they would refuse. Still Roberts loves bigger majorities so he is likely willing to give a little to get it to 6-3.

    I agree with Sarah's reasoning on the soccer issue. The "job" of a professional athlete is to draw paying eyeballs to a live event, or a broadcast event, or products associated with the entertainment. It is the same as the job of a professional actor or music performer.
