    Facts are really pesky things, right? TO declare the COVID pandemic "over" and not worthy of discussion is to miss a really inconvenient fact. For every week this year, at least 350 have died every 5 days from COVID. In January, February, and late-April and May, that number was in excess of 450 and as high as 1,000. So for perspective, that' the equivalent of a 747 crashing every 5 days and we say "oof. The risk you take when you fly." Really? I'm not calling for mass isolation or quarantining or the shut down of human civilization, but to downplay the very real effect this virus is having is to discount that action is no longer required to address it. Could not be more wrong.

    I didn't know indenting was no longer a thing. In programming it's essential, the controversy is whether to use spaces (YES) or tabs.

    I keep mulling something over from this podcast and I realize it's been almost a week but I want to hear from you all about it. I keep thinking about the premise that the school closures brought about irreparable long term effects to our kids when we read those books this summer for Sarah's book club about the resiliency of our brains (I think especially for our children who have more supple brains?). 10 years from now will the fact that schools were closed for a period of time really have damaged our children so badly with all we know about the brain's resiliency??? I am skeptical that it will have a long term impact and would like to hear your thoughts on all of this.

    Since Jonah briefly mentioned Singapore in the context of school closures, I wanted to mention that Singapore actually only tried remote learning for about 1-2 months in 2020. We had all sorts of other restrictions, and an indoor mask mandate that was only recently lifted, but schools were open and in-person far earlier than in the US.
