Unable to find a guest who’s willing to tolerate his ramblings, an anesthetized Jonah is forced to return to the AMA format on today’s distinctly messy Remnant. Temporarily freed from his pit, Guy, Jonah’s immigrant manservant, offers a fresh batch of listener questions that cover everything from the latest in Supreme Court controversies, to the prospect of a Dispatch blogging section, to the conservative underpinnings of popular movies and TV shows. But although their conversation contains a few nuggets of genuine substance, most of it proves to be so pointlessly indulgent that you may be better served by simply listening to the week’s first episode again.

    In a recent episode, you asked for people to consider as good candidates to join the Dispatch staff. My suggestion would be Michael Moynihan who was until recently a reporter for Vice and is one of the hosts of the Fifth Column podcast. He’s someone that has done in depth work on issues, going to places like Texas or Ukraine. His political background is somewhat libertarian and I think it would be a good mix when talking about politics. Thanks!

    I've seen at least 40 of the American Film Institute's "top-100" films of all time. Some of them I've only seen once, and a long time ago (example: "Raging Bull" or "American Graffiti"). Some I've never seen but intend to ("Citizen Kane;" possibly "Casablanca."). Some I have absolutely ZERO interest in seeing ("Singing in the Rain")

    I am a Gen-Xer so obviously the ones made in the 1970s through 1990s are the ones I've seen more regularly.

    BTW, I absolutely LOVED "A Simple Plan" -- a phenomenal movie that is totally under-rated. I've been a HUGE fan of Bill Paxton and am still saddened he passed away too soon. He could have been making great movies for decades to come.

    Feel free sometime to discuss at length Paul Cantor’s work! One of my deepest regrets about my time at UVA was not taking a course with him.

    Casablanca is the greatest movie of all time. I’m maybe Guy’s age and I love that movie. It’s good every single time.

    I've mentioned it here before (hopefully it wasn't taken as sarcasm), but I think Disney's Zootopia is basically a film adaptation of 'Suicide of the West'. It's conclusions about the fragility of pluralistic societies and the dangers of reverting to natural instincts strikes me as very conservative. I think Disney thought they were making a movie about diversity and prejudice, but they stumbled into some of Jonah's favorite bingo card topics.

    This was fun, and I am enjoying the relationship between Jonah and Guy. It’s been nice to see how it’s developed, and turned into a good team. But, I will never understand Guy’s infatuation with Kiss! This must be like watching your grandfather(s) dressing up for Halloween. What on earth is interesting enough to go on a cruise with them?

    In all fairness, I had to think about anything that would make a cruise worthwhile for me. Maybe a group of true crime fans, but it couldn’t be just people who are fascinated with Ted Bundy or one person in particular. I’d want variety. The other would have to do with history. That could be almost anything, but I think the Victorian era would be interesting.

    That reminds me that the last Remnant with Bret Devereaux was a favorite. He was so enthusiastic, entertaining and interesting. If he had his own podcast, I’d be following.

      True crime fans would attract you to a cruise? I mean nothing would attract me to a cruise but maybe the guarantee of no true crime fans would help.

        I was trying to think of something because going on a cruise is not something I’d ever want to do. You’d be amazed at how popular true crime is. Not your thing, that’s fine. Same for me with KISS.

    Very surprised that Jonah’s sitcom choice was not the Odd Couple given the amount of time dedicated to it on GLoP. Although maybe Pod is driving that.
