Jonah teams up with Mike Rothschild (who, shockingly enough, is not a member of the Rothschild family) to discuss conspiracy theories and the fallacies that undergird them on today’s Remnant. In a conversation that touches on wackiness ranging from Pizzagate to the Rothschilds’ supposed lease on Israel, Jonah and Mike try to understand why conspiracy theories formulate and what makes people subscribe to them. What do pro-Trump conspiracy theories indicate about the state of our institutions? Why is antisemitism such a pervasive evil? And  a general decline in in social media to connect crazy people to crazy ideas in ways that underground bookstores never could.

    This is a fascinating topic. The term Homo Religio is very useful. We have the infinite capacity for belief. I think it can be harnessed in good ways as it can lend itself to reverence and awe. Humility in face of our ignorance. But if ignored, will grow into something like psychological skin tags and third nipples. Conspiracy theories strike me as the third nipple of magical thinking.

    Loved this, Jonah! I’m also one who listens to the very end just so I can hear your guest’s version of “No you won’t, this is a podcast!”

    Mike Rothschild gets the gold medal for “That’s what they want you to think.” 😂

    Also, you ask for feedback on Ask Me Anything, but there’s nowhere to comment on The Skiff. Personally, I like it. It’s fun hearing from Guy, too. You guys are turning into a good team!

    Really interesting discussion, thank you. I notice that very few of the anti-Semitic conspiracy theories plainly name Jews as the evil controllers - it's usually Rothschilds, London financiers, George Soros, etc. I wonder how many who repeat this crap have made the cognitive leap to the fact that it's all just anti-Semitic, whether they'd admit it out loud or not.

    "That's what they want you to believe!" Best twist on the end gag I've heard yet! You don't need to keep doing that schtick for this listener, but I must admit I appreciate when they're tailored to the guest/topic. Like the attorney: "Objection your honor, this is a podcast!" Or Adaam's version in Hebrew. David Brooks could've said: "Jonah, what do you mean by 'See you later"? I mean, we both know you won't, this is a podcast, but I really want to understand your point of view and what motivates it." Of course, asking David to do that might be a stretch....
