Did Georgia Mail Out More Ballots Than It Has Registered Voters?

No.

A widely-shared Facebook post, recycling a familiar voter fraud rumor, claims that Georgia mailed out more ballots than the number of registered voters. The full post reads as follows: “Georgia Mailed Out 7 Million Ballots In 2020 Election When the State Only Had 5.6 Million Registered Voters.”

This is a false claim.

Georgia recorded a record number of registered voters with 7,638,898 registered voters in the 2020 election, per data from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.

According to the U.S. Elections Project, using information from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, Georgia had 1,782,580 mail-in ballot requests in the 2020 election. There were 1,320,154 mail-in ballots returned and accepted, with a return rate of 74.1%.
