    I think Sarah is guilty of straight-line projections into the future. If you’d said in 2007 that in ten years the Buchananites would be running the Republican Party, you would have been laughed out of the room. But that’s exactly what happened.

    My 75 year old mother has voted Republican in every presidential election since 2000 (her only D votes ever were for Clinton), including Trump in 2016 and 2020.

    "Stop the steal" and Jan 6th were the final straws for her; she voted for Haley in the SC primary and will not be voting this November if it's between Trump and Biden.

    I have no idea how representative she is, but she's not a Dispatch reader and she watches a lot of Fox News.

    How can a movement have a "Future", when it doesn't have a "Present"?

    The current leader of the "Conservative" movement is now flailing to keep 30 percentage points behind a talk-show thug in the race for the nomination of the Republican Party.

    The conservative leader in the Senate is stepping down, because he is too old. There is no credible successor.

    In the House, there are no conservatives; just some evangelical fringe maniacs, hitting each other over the head with water balloons.

    A future for the conservatives? Are you for real?

    Jonah Goldberg hit the nail in the head on the media attention Republican primary is getting. He is spot, while there is dissatisfaction on Biden mainly due to his age and not using his executive branch like Obama did with passes executive orders and bypassing congress but nobody hates Biden. Infact you may well thank Biden for calming down Obama from shifting far too left during his time as VP. Biden is a master negotiator, something Obama lacked. He debt ceiling deal with McCarthy is a good example. I agree his age is a concern but like newsom said age is also an asset. Medi hypocrisy of his age is mind boggling considering why don't you ask the same question to other 'old' farts like McConnell,chuck grassley and even trump himself. I counted at least 4 gaffes trump made during his sc "victory" speech that drudge report noted. 1) he asked his voters to vote on Nov 27. 2) he called his current wife as Mercedes 3) failed to mention his son Eric when he talked about his entire family. 4) called Republican party more united than ever despite getting less than 60% as an incumbent which is pathetic. But there wasn't much coverage on that. Why?

        On the other side you have a thug with ONLY a lizard brain; I know that, he can shoot your kids in broad daylight, and you will still vote for him.

        The blame is on YOU, not Biden or the Democrats.

        Lmao. He absolutely played McCarthy by giving him a few breadcrumbs in the debt ceiling deal and with all the so called impeachment talk about Biden it was McCarthy who is out of his job by end of the year. Lol you guys crack me up

    Republicans that can't bring themselves or won't vote for Trump, won't necessarily vote for Biden either, and vice versa. Abstaining from either and or writing in another candidate is also likely for many on both sides.

    It is an article of faith among The Dispatch smart people that all we need to fix elections is to go back to smoke filled rooms picking party candidates. I see this as grasping at straws for a variety of reasons which are too boring to go into. Our ONLY way forward is jungle primaries and ranked choice voting. Our political duopoly needs the creative destruction of competition injected into the mix. Why am I wrong?
