    Serious question for Jonah:

    Why the such negativity & defamatory comments toward Colonel Sanders? Comparing him to Tucker Carlson that’s a low blow.

    What did Colonel Sanders ever do to deserve the scorn? Did he give you only 5 pieces in the 6 piece bucket? Did he refuse to go to ludicrous speed?

      Well, per Japanese Hanshin Tigers fans, the good Colonel did curse their team for 38 years and denied them a championship, but he seems to have rescinded the curse this year.

    Are the candidates running for a future election? Maybe but it’s hard to work that one out. DeSantis looks incredibly weakened compared to 1 year ago and the other real candidates (ignoring Vivek) are running a much less populist campaign. I think they have real indicators that Trump attacks turn into self-inflicted wounds. Pence wasn’t looking down the road and he struggles to be super direct with criticism. Just a messed up cycle with no logic.

    Yes, as Jonah says, we’re right to be surprised by some of the campus response to the Hamas attack, which was cruel and barbaric to children and aimed at civilians. This is real and shocking, a testament to existence of a radical left along with the well-documented and powerful radical right.

    But take a breath: I don’t believe without evidence the poll Jonah quoted, finding that “1 in 5 Democrats are affirmatively pro-Hamas”. What poll? Who were the pollsters? How was the question phrased? Who was polled? No information was given other than the quoted statement and that this was published last week or this week.

    It would be just as credible if an unidentified poll reported findings that “4 in 5 Republicans support the Jan 6th insurrection”, yet I would never take such a finding as truth without scrutiny of such a poll, And replication of the findings in other poll(s).

    Many moderate writers and pods on TD and The Bulwark have pointed out that the Democratic *elected* politicians overwhelmingly stand with Israel (as elected Republicans at one point stood with Ukraine before MAGA worked overtime to turn Republican opinion).

    Please don’t help the crazies on the left by reporting inflated power and influence over the Democratic party without providing hard evidence. Unless you want to see the elected Democrats cave to the left the way McCarthy and his colleagues cave to MAGA, we need to follow the usual criteria for ascertaining truth from polls and other sources.

    BTW, something not heard here I think is a reason behind this youthful anti-Semitism.

    Anti-colonialism is what’s at the forefront of this stuff. These kids don’t just think Israel shouldn’t exist, they think America shouldn’t either. This is what they’ve been taught especially in higher education.

    I was just reading a very enlightening article yesterday about how I can decolonize my living space. Jefferson and his bullshit rotundas are just relics from a slave owning rapist. Didn’t you know? Get rid of that racist toaster and those whitey salt shakers, buddy! This was in Architectural Digest, not some fringe rag like the Nothington Post and it was entirely serious and even quoting previous pioneers in the field of decolonizing your bathroom.

    We still don’t seem to have grasped how empty the minds of our youth are as they roll off the outrage assembly line nor how ubiquitous they are. I’m always reminded of Dikotter’s story about Red Guard youth in China intentionally getting math problems wrong to prove their allegiance to the dogma. That wound up being forcing old people to discuss their offensive wealth in front of mobs before usually being beaten, sometimes murdered and even eaten literally by the little shits.

    Of course this will lead to anti-Semitism as it always does because Jew hatred and utopian delusions go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Kids are always angry at some form of “The Man” and that always winds up being the Jews. These tropes about the Jews running everything behind the scenes are everywhere and I’ve heard people repeat them in polite company. Dave Chapelle said it in his SNL monologue just last year!

    So you pour yourself a glass of historical ignorance. You throw in anti-colonial propaganda like a highball cube. You splash in tropes about secret Jewish cabals pulling the levers of power. And then you add equal parts resentment of their youthful circumstance with outrage over lies about Israel repeated by serious journalists from here to Paris. Shaken, not stirred.

    The only thing that surprises me is how long this stuff has taken to materialize.

    Commenting on Vivek's motivation to present an "unhinged" debate performance, Jonah offers up the desire to appeal to the appetite of the "online right" for transgressive performance. That may be directionally right in the moment, but this hits a much deeper and broader current of recent American culture. Jonah's generation (and mine) will easily recognize the impulse to ".... find out what happens…when people stop being polite…and start getting real". And that in turn rests on the foundations laid by our own elders seeking authenticity as a highest aim and disparaging Holden Caulfield's "phonies".

      When Jonah said “He tried real hard to be a dick,” Trump immediately came to mind. That’s his exact strategy. It works for Trump because that’s who he is. He’s made an entire career out of being the dick that he is. Authenticity!

    I agree with Jonah, I don’t understand the pro-Hamas / anti-Israel sentiment on the Left. I also think it’s getting over blown in our media/social media magnifying lenses. A couple hundred pro-Palestine protesters on video? That’s 0.0001% of the US population! Any idiot ripping down posters of kidnap victims because they think it’s hip gets amplified a thousand times. It’s really a symptom of our times where the absolute worst of one side becomes the avatar for the other to point too. 5% support Hamas? Sure because 95% of them don’t know what Hamas really stands for. It’s the horseshoe of our politics where the worst of the Left loops around and connects to the worst of the Right.

    To be clear, this problem does exist on the Left. It needs to be weeded out and stuffed in a dark hole to rot.

      The number of very politically engaged people on either side of the spectrum is really small - I think former Senator Ben Sasse estimated it's something like 3% of the population the right, and 4% on the left. However, 4% of 330 million people is 13 million people, so that's a lot of voices that could potentially be airing their views in protests and in the media.
