    But Jonah, how can you lament the absence of a defining presence like William F. Buckley drawing the line at Birchers and then criticize the popular front mentality for trying to exclude the voices which they disagree? The problem is, the wrong side is running the show. It’s us they want out of the party (which is fine by me).

    As to the absence of a platform, there is one. It’s the arbitrary whims of Donald Trump. Certainly this is much less desirable than a written platform in the same way that the Twelve Tables were superior to “because King Superbus said so” but this is one reason actual conservatives are leaving the party.

    I think the Goldberg Clan had the best summer of just about any family I am aware of.....why let something like a pandemic get in the way of summer travel plans?......Glad you all were able to enjoy your summer and we look forward to September and the full entree of G Files and Jonah hosted Remnants.

    Jonah, I would like to add my voice to those offering to buy you a bottle of scotch. If you ever make it to either to Portland or Hood River Oregon (we spend our summers in Hood River), a bottle of Glenmorangie 18 year on me. I have a few friends that would love to join me and drink some whiskey with you.

    Regarding the has-to-be exhausting sycophancy DJT requires even of his children, it'd be great to hear one of them give Cordelia's line from King Lear:

    Unhappy that I am, I cannot heave
    My heart into my mouth. I love your majesty
    According to my bond; no more nor less.

    He'd be so confused. Then angry. Then he'd pretend to make a joke.

    Loved my own father with all my heart, and he said he wouldn't recognize me if I weren't arguing with him. My mother had narcissistic tendencies, and we never really re-established a relationship after I grew past the adoring phase. Can only project what I know, so I have to wonder if DJT's relationship with his kids, or anybody, is similarly stunted.

    Normally don't like to openly speculate about the families of public figures, but the Trump progeny have kinda been forced on us. Their dysfunction is our problem, like it or not.

    I was contacted by a pollster last week. One of the first questions was about party affiliation or leanings. I was a repub since the early 1970's and said I was an indie. Strange Days Have Found Us.

    You made me look up the definition of "loch"! I guess it's a lake, not a swamp. I agree that it's good for both parties to have a platform. Put your stand out there in black and white. We seem to have a hard time sticking to it, but it might be a tool to remind people where we stand.

    Thanks for recording some pods en route to the swamp. As for the criticism of you covering certain themes in your writing and on the pods over the course of a week, meh. I enjoy chewing the fat on given topics over time instead of just one and done now give me something new.

        I think, with social media, it's harder now to get any distance from a career concerned n any way with politics. Maybe it always was, but there was a broader horizon, not a view, in every direction, of one, big, inflated figure.
