    David is not much of a conservative or libertarian if he advocates it is the job of government to take care of the poor. At least look at how the incentives from government have contributed to keeping people poor, keeping children in single parent families, etc. Hayek is invoked, but understanding of economics is lacking.

    Re Kevin's hugely important last question to David: You MUST subscribe to the Monster Man podcast[0]. A very literate medieval historian reads through the classic D&D monster books, two or three monsters at a time. It's a ten minute delight!

    David did not make a compelling case about originalism and textualism at all. If you dislike looking to legislators, who WROTE and enacted the law, do you propose simply casting about for what your preferred law professor was saying at the time instead? This is just making the “perfect the enemy of the good” into a hermeneutic. It’s a blind alley.

    And putting native intelligence and the values of one’s upbringing in opposition to education per se is well meaning, perhaps, but is still erroneous. “Verbal acuity” absent a law degree isn’t going to make you partner in a big firm. There’s a lot of hard work involved, which can be meritorious. We don’t have to throw them a parade to acknowledge the virtues involved. But if you were just in jeremiad mode, have at it.

    1.) What are the odds that ANY of the four cases make to trial before the 2024 election? (I say less than 10%)

    2.) Will there be a 70/30, 60/40 or 50/50 blame split for the upcoming government shutdown? And who gets the blame?

    3.) The national debt just crossed the $33T mark. Does anyone in power care?

    4.) David, what is the best perk of being at the NYTs? And does Steve have any hope of implementing something similar to keep the talent at TD? (assuming the perk is bigger than Aqua Man 2 premiere tickets😅)

    What in the world happened that made so many hard Righty Republicans love Putin? I don't mean just Trump. I mean all the dolts in the House who will be thrilled should Putin defeat Ukraine. I first got interested in politics in 1964. Barry Goldwater must be spinning fast enough to light up Scottsdale all by himself.

    Thoughts on Project 2025? I was completely horrified to hear of it (and wonder if it prompted the Presidential Center's statement about democracy). Not sure how realistic it would be to execute though - how worried a citizen should be. Thanks!
