This edition of Dispatch Live was recorded March 18 and features Sarah, David, Steve and Chris discussing earmarks, the Atlanta shooting and race in America, fiscal conservatism, the superiority of french toast over pancakes, and conspiracies the team wishes were true. David did his best to explain the genesis of the Snyder Cut which caused Steve to wonder out loud how he might institute a muting feature in future editions.

    A great Dispatch Live event. David, you’re wrong about pancakes and french toast (I wonder though whether you have some subconscious positive association with French toast). But you’re right about so much else (that’s more important). When you brought up the fertility issue, you were right on. Not something I think about much but your comments made me wonder whether Children of Men might come true someday.

    Yes to the UFOs! DNI Ratcliffe just put out a statement! More info coming this year.

    The last question was spot on. Sadly I was not the one to ask it. And Chris and Steve, your excellent answers reminded me why I subscribe to the Dispatch. Steve your mention of the debt earlier as the issue we don’t talk enough about also was spot on. And David’s corridor (I heard quarter too) analogy is also spot on. Just because we have avoided a problem in the past does not mean it won’t bite us in the future.

    Late to listening to this. I had a question in the original posting about the debt. I want the Dispatch to make a positive argument for why debt is the important issue from the perspective of other future costs demanding current sacrifice like climate change. I’ve been living my entire life during climate change and national debt and as Chris says, I’ve had a privileged existence. Why is economics the infallible science and debt the important problem?

    I watched after the fact. I got through better than half and came back. It reset to the beginning. Should Zoom have ability to advance the video? I can’t seem to find it. Do you post as audio podcast so one can listen later without the video? Thank you.

    It would be nice to be able to skip ahead at parts but I don't see a bar to allow for it at the bottom of the video.

      I gotcha. I agree.

      I found that I could skip ahead by a few seconds by using my right arrow key on my PC keyboard. I don't know how far it jumps, but it's something.

    The key event that pulled the GOP away from addressing entitlement reform was Paul Ryan accepting Mitt Romney's offer to be his running mate. Converting an effective congressional policy leader into just one more ego with a national ambition was destructive beyond measure.

    Sarah. I agree with your sentiment that women are disadvantaged in our culture. Women have been viewed as property to own, use and abuse. Too many cases of spousal & boy friend abuse. As I reflect on the music I grew up with too much had the theme of possession. There seems to be a sense of entitlement for men to take what we want or deserve. Too many cases where "protection" orders provide no protection....
