Dispatch Live: 2022 Year in Review

For the last Dispatch Live of the year, members of The Dispatch staff will take a look back on the crazy year that was 2022. Join David, Kevin, and Price to hear what they thought were the highlights (and lowlights) of the past year. Plus, what did we learn from the year? What was the weirdest headline? What predictions do they have for next year? And, of course, there will be time for questions from those who tune in.

    Sorry to be so late.

    The Artemis launch is going to be, long term, of little consequence. I expect that Artemis will be cancelled in a few years. Why? It's too expensive. SpaceX can put an equivalent payload into orbit for much, much less.

    I say this as someone that spent 27 years working as a NASA contractor, doing research, helping getting the space shuttle flying after the Columbia accident, working on Orion - the capsule that rode on Artemis.

    I believe the Dobbs decision will cause problems for Republicans for a long time for a number of reasons: (1) it emphasizes positions of Republicans that are outside the mainstream and many will consider extreme, (2) it made the Supreme Court appear activist and tied to Republican extremism - which will incentivize Democrats and many Independents to vote against Republicans as they are deemed responsible for it, (3) it has increased engagement and voter turnout of Generation Z and younger Millennials, who tend to vote for the Democrats, (4) people don’t like to have rights/things taken away from them, and (5) it is creating issues in the healthcare system, including for people requiring medically necessary abortions and people traveling between states with differing abortion restrictions (e.g., college students), and could result in fewer OB/GYNs practicing in certain states - which will be blamed on Republicans. Between these issues and the fact that Evangelicals have tied themselves so closely to Trump and Trumpism, it will be that much harder for the Pro- Life movement to change hearts and minds. I foresee an accelerating decline in social conservatism.

    If for some reason Biden does not/ can not run in 2024, who do you see as the most viable Democratic option to keep Trump out of the White House (by the elective process, that is, not by mob force.)

    Over the past three as well as the current administration, Fiscal responsibility has gone begging. How can we dig our treasury out of our huge debt loan, without slipping into economic chaos?
