In tonight’s Dispatch Live, Kevin talks to Steve and Jonah about Fox’s decision to settle with Dominion for $787 million (and whether anything will change at the company as a result). Harvest checks in from Wilmington, Delaware, to discuss the scene on the ground and what it was like to wait hours for a trial that never actually happened. Finally, Esther joins Dispatch Live to chat about the latest developments in Sudan.

    This was great! Harvest and Esther did a good job, including not being intimidated by a host who looks like some combination of John Brown and too many trips to the DMV have finally caused him to start an anarchist militia. I especially liked the fact that Steve was the one who derailed the conversation to talk about gigantic burgers. Esther had a great answer to Kevin’s question in the form of a statement about why America should care about Sudan.

    The correct answer to the cable news question was that people should ditch their televisions and subscribe to paper newspapers. Speaking of which, when is TD getting a paper version…?

    To the Dispatch Staff who create the programming for Dispatch Live:
    - This version was perhaps one of the best formats I've listened to (I listened to the podcast version)
    - This format could definitely work for a Dispatch Daily. Bring in all the reporters to talk about their beat.

    Regarding Jonah’s statement that surely OANN and newsmax were even worse than Fox in their coverage: that may be true, but they may not have been as dumb with their internal and discoverable comms, which seems to be what really sunk Fox. Fox hosts were not true believers, they knew they were lying, and they documented that they knew they were lying.

    If they were all true believers, then both parts of the defamation test (lying and also malice) likely fail, and if they were simply smart enough not to document they were lying, then they could claim to have been true believers in court, which amounts to the same thing.

    I know Bret Baier is a friend of Steve’s, but what he did on election night and the weeks that followed was embarrassing. He had his character tested and he failed that test. The fact that he didn’t fail miserably like most of his colleagues does not diminish the fact that he failed in his role as a “news” man.

    Sammon and Stirewalt were on point with their criticisms of Bret.
