    Good on Declan too for holding his ground. Other fellow podcasting participants who shall remain nameless often dismiss his views or seemingly minimize but they are well reasoned and appreciated.

    A great podcast! However, I feel another perspective is called for on Jonah’s comments on Democrats wanting to portray themselves as the grownup, serious party where the debt ceiling is concerned.

    Jonah said, “When a bunch of kids are behaving like jackasses, grownups don’t say ‘Let them have their fun’ … shooting guns in the air … When Biden says we won’t negotiate at all … it seems to me … if you actually consider yourself to be the grownup, you might do what Kevin is proposing preemptively and say … ‘this is the only thing that we’re willing to do, you meet us here, be grownups’ knowing that they’ll refuse it.”

    I like Jonah’s analogy, but I disagree on what is the grownup response. If the kids are making demands, particularly as refers to the guns they’re shooting in the air, then I think it’s preferable to Not negotiate with them, but rather regain control of the guns while giving them no power whatsoever. If you give the kids power, then these dangerous tactics will become cool and you’ll see them again. I would rather see these tactics extinguished than the MAGA Republicans use them and be seen as powerful, giving them more prestige with their base.

    Have to say you lost me with the comment about there being enough MTG supporters to win a presidential election. That wing of the party isnt even big enough to win statewide in Georgia or Arizona, let alone Pennsylvania or all the other swing states trump would need to pick up.

    Apologies, as I realize this isn't a farm or culinary podcast, but am being compelled out of a commenting sabbatical by the vegetable now being misidentified by more than one Dispatch-er on more than one podcast. I would like to gently point out it was lettuce--not cabbage--that lasted longer than Liz Truss.
