    SW WA State north of the Columbia is most definitely not "Portland suburbs." Very different politics, self-identification, etc. Main connection is sports teams and employment.

    Jonah. since you will be in NYC on Tuesday, is there any chance of arranging a meetup Tuesday night for Dispatch subscribers in the NYC metro area? I would love to buy you a drink. Heck, if you want we can meet at Peter Lugar's and I'll buy you some dead cow cooked the way you like it.

    One other question. What's up with all the ads on this podcast? I almost always listen on the website and until the switch from substack, I'd never heard any ads there. There were lots of ads baked in this one. At least it's possible to jump past them. Are the ads a deliberate change?

    The talk of first time voters made me think back to the first time I voted and the first person I ever voted for. That was Alfonse Marcello D'Amato. I remember feeling kind of bittersweet about that because I would never get the chance to vote for Ronald Reagan. It was also the first time I voted against Mark Green. Green used to stand alone as the candidate I voted against more often than any other. But in 2020, he was joined at the top of that list by an orange cheetoh that ran for president. Counting the NY primary, I've voted against that cheetoh 3 times. Unfortunately, it seems inevitable Green will lose his share of first place after I vote against the cheetoh in the 2024 GOP primary.

    So if you guys need a lawyer to negotiate for the rights to retail “Hoboken squat Cobbler” I officially offer my services pro bono. Well, I do want a shirt that says “I became a member of The Dispatch and all I got was this Hoboken squat Cobbler t-shirt.”
