    I like the shout out about the need for good governance. I work in local government, the people I work with are all committed public servants and I think we do a lot of betterment in our community; there needs to be a conservative interest in government operations. Republican's talk federalism, but their ideas for how to devolve policy to competent local bureaucracy rarely exceeds a half sentence. Unfortunately, the strength of anti-government sentiment on the right has taken on a very anti-institutional and frankly personally mean, bitter, and detail/fact ignorant approach locally. Maybe it's where I am, California, where the local GOP has gone insane and tries very hard to lose elections, but it's exhausting to hear the right only scream no to everything while yelling about a policy or budget none of them have read; there need to be good conservative policy wonks at the local level.

    Hey guys. I really like the whole “random things from the skiff just pop into my podcast feed”-thing, so keep it up!

    Also, I have to counter program Anne’s dislike of the Skiff theme music by saying that I love it and want to hear more of it.

    I live in NYC and have been waiting for a NYC event since the Dispatch started doing them. I'm a founding member of the Dispatch. How did I miss this? Where was it announced? I'm so disappointed.

    Jonah, you keep talking about Alzheimers, and I want to thank you so much. My mother had it, and a friend’s mother has it. It’s awful. I guess people think it’s an “old people’s disease,” but it can hit much younger people, too.

    I was fortunate that my mom wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the other elderly people I’ve read about, but it was so hard on my dad. I remember talking to one of my dad’s friends after he died. She was an old childhood friend, and in one of their conversations he said to her, “I’ve lost her.” He was referring to my mom.

    It was hard for me. She was so smart, and in a lot of ways, she still was. But, she was somewhere else. I cannot imagine living with the person I love, and realizing he was somewhere else, mentally. And, of course, I worry that I’ll do that to him. And, even harder is how drawn out it is, sometimes and often, years.

    Oh, and one last, unimportant thing. The music for The Skiff is awful. Sorry.
