    The airman accused should be prosecuted for sure but I have yet to hear much about his chain of command. Air Guard units are pretty "casual" and I'm not surprised this airman had an easy time getting material out of his office building--they are usually deserted (weekend warriors). The Secretary of the Air Force and SecDef are directing a stand down of the entire force to review security procedures and need-to-know status. I think the brass in the Pentagon got the message, it will be interesting to see what changes, if anything, and who gets fired.

    I’m in the parenting weeds right now and would love a parenting fail podcast. Of course every time I think I’ve really blown it my parents pipe in with a story of raising us, and I realize my “fails” were basically normal 70s and 80s parenting, most stories beginning with, “I was just sitting down with my morning cigarette when the doorbell rang…”

    If you are going to have a series with parents talking about their mistakes, I hope you also include some content that implies that it is all totally worth it. Having children is no longer strongly supported by our society, and young people only ever hear negative messages about it.

      Yep parenting is hard. But until you are a parenting you can't really understand how great it really is. You don't really know what love is till you have a kid IMHO

    Also wanted to point out that I’m glad someone finally mentioned the utterly repulsive hypocrisy of the style book rules where pro-life groups are - by rule - denied the respect of being called by the name they choose for themselves. I’m not very pro-life politically but this is the kind of thing that makes the “mainstream” media despicable and I’ve been yelling at my TV about it for many years.

    Jonah mentioned some “serious” journalists who had a problem with his support of Harlan Crow. This is of the same cloth to me. I don’t know Jonah or Crow from Adam but I knew when the story came out that it was a crafted hit piece designed not as journalism but as propaganda. That contemptible Garden of Evil piece is exhibit A and it is quite obvious to any sane person that Jonah is honest whether or not he’s right.

    Further, even if the argument can be made that Thomas’ behavior is questionable, there is zero - ZERO - chance that these same reporters or publications would produce such a story about Kamala Harris or George Soros or Sonia Sotomayor - unless such a story will somehow further Democratic causes. These are the types of “journalists” who will pretend that John Fetterman is perfectly fine and expect me to take them seriously.

    I don’t care how respected, accomplished or otherwise showered with accolades certain journalists are. If this is how they behave, they are not serious and they should not be taken seriously. That includes the entire establishment tied to a style book that prohibits the use of “alien” or “pro-life” by rule. No such publication can seriously call itself journalism and I refuse to recognize any of it. My apologies to David French but the New York Times ceased to be journalism long ago. Perhaps they employ some real journalists who are good and honest but the publication itself is garbage and I don’t care if I’m the only person on earth saying so.

      Lo and behold, Mr. Crow has defended himself. Good for him. It isn’t difficult to see the disingenuous nature of this entire affair. Too many “journalists” today are too eager to smear anyone who doesn’t align with their radical worldview and this is indeed the weakness of a moderate, liberal society. The scoundrels don’t play by the rules but they know and expect that the good people will. Those people, like Harlan Crow, must fight back.

    When our daughter was born we thought we were shielding her from germs by soaking her pacifier in soapy hot water after each use. We abandoned that plan after she seemed like she was choking, I “slapped” her back, turned her around and an enormous soap bubble came out of her mouth.

    Don’t feel bad, Sarah. When my second was one, I took her to the playground behind the neighborhood. She used to climb up to the lowest level and jump into my arms.

    On that day, she decided to climb to the highest part, which is around 10 feet. I gave her the hand and said something like “Let me get up this ladder a bit” but one year olds don’t hear words as they’re spoken so she took the hand as “jump” which she proceeded to do, bounced off the top of my head and landed in the mulch.

    First thought: “Oh shit, I killed her.”

    Second thought: “Wife is gonna kill me. How do I cover this up?”

    Third thought: “Damn, is she ok? She’s not making any noise.”

    Then she started yelling and I went and picked her up. She went right back up and tried to do it again. Kids are nuts and parents can’t be blamed for it.

    She’s 3 now and just yesterday she pointed at some unopened product in a jam packed Costco (shoot me) loud enough for everyone nearby to hear it, “Daddy, what in the hell is that?”

    I can be blamed for that one.

    Bad Parenting podcast is a great idea--

    To lighten the work and make it possible to continue past Labor Day, a couple ideas:

    Make it 1 part "overtime" like Maher's YouTube episode extensions with the panel. And 1 part like the web series for High Maintenance on HBO.

    A semi-irregular series of little 7-10 minute "get-to-know-you" sketches with Dispatch friends, family, and podcast guests.

    Yeah, you just finished an hour talking to Jonah about your new 600-page tome on Antebellum Semiotics. Nice! Want to stick around 10 more minutes and tell a funny story about your kids? Done deal.

    Definitely pretty certain if Kyiv loses, it will be ugly. If you've read or listened to anything from Anna Applebaum, Stephen Kotkin, Fiona Hill, or Timothy Snyder, I don't think you can reach any other conclusion. I don't think even as liberal and blaming of the West as John Mearsheimer is, that even he would predict anything good at this point.
